Henna Support Service (HSS) philosophy is to place the needs of the service user at the heart of our service by promoting independence and providing personal care and support that respects people's choice, rights, privacy and dignity.
HSS offers assistance in day to day independent living for vunerable adults living in residential homes, nursing homes, hospitals or even at day centres and respite homes. The Government is prioritising the modernisation of care and support services to the elderly, people with disabilities and a wide range of adults who might otherwise find themselves excluded from mainstream provision. A wider range of agencies are now expected to become involved in service delivery.
Our support services is for general support, but specialises in working with adults with challenging behaviour, mental disability, learning disability, dementia. It is quite a challenging opportunity to work with varied demands. To site few examples:
- Our Support workers assist in personal grooming and motivating and teaching the users to perform such activities independently
- Assist them in thieir areas of interest such as exercising, group activiites, shopping, going to college to learn, computers, language, music and even outdoor activities like football.
- One to one support for service users who need constant supervision and demand greater care and attention until the time they get settled and are able to live with other service users in the home in a sociable manner.
- Night sitters and companionship.
The relationship of support worker with the service user can be a very close one, so it's important to make sure that the service users feel comfortable with them. Before we allocate a support worker to the service user, our senior staff makes an assessment of your needs, and produce a report called a care plan. It is important to be honest about your needs so that they can offer the best help they can.
If you are funding the care yourself you will have more choice than through the local authority, but it's important to use a reputable agency that vets its staff. You should ask an agency:
- Do they have a code of practice?
- What training and qualifications will the support worker have?
- What range of services do they provide? are they able to offer the specific careand support you need?
- What are the charges? are there any extras, such as travelling or vat?
- Do they have a 24-hour service? how can you contact it, and what are the costs?
- What happens if you have a problem with the support workerr? is there a complaints procedure?
- What happens if your support worker is ill or on holiday?
At HennaGroup our staff build long lasting and successful relationships with our candidates and clients by listening to individual needs. We're proud to be helping people like you meet the evolving social changes in today's society.
